A Beautiful Start for the Gaskill Neighbors Association

On February 22, we held our first-ever Gaskill Neighbors gathering, and it was a huge success!

The event, focused on the 57th Street block, brought together neighbors for an afternoon of connection, food, drinks, and fun. Kids played games, enjoyed giant bubbles, and got their faces painted, while adults mingled and got to know each other better.

This gathering marked the beginning of something exciting: the Gaskill Neighbors Association. Founded in January 2025, our mission is to create a stronger sense of community by organizing neighborhood events, clean up gatherings, and beautification projects. We also plan to work with the City of Oakland to address safety concerns and advocate for the needs of our residents.

The enthusiasm from our first event shows just how much our community values coming together. Moving forward, we’ll host gatherings on different blocks to ensure all of Gaskill gets involved. The next event is in the works, and we’d love your input—where should we host it next?

We are also looking for Street Captains—neighbors who know many residents on their block and are interested in helping us organize future gatherings. (Thank you, Siobhan Cassidy, for being the 57th Street Captain and doing such a phenomenal job!)

If you’d like to get involved or nominate someone, let us know!

Together, we can continue building a stronger, more connected Gaskill.
